With millions of new blogs every year, you need excellent and relevant content to spoil your readers. In addition it helps to stand out visually and be unique. In this review, I am taking a closer look at Fable from ElegantThemes. It is a WordPress theme loaded with cool features and with an interesting approach in design. This theme will help your blog to be radically different from most others.
Fable is fully responsive and mobile friendly. Focus on responsiveness is another common trend right now and when implemented correctly mobile users will get a great experience even on small mobile devices. For more responsive blog theme inspiration also check out this post.
The Fable theme is a blogging style theme but it takes a different and unique approach to blog index and post design. First off all you will note that there are no sidebars. Further, each post is easily configured to be pure eye-catching with large header/background images and galleries. The design of each post is carried over to the blog archives and makes them look great. This great visual variation and the 4 posts types (article, video, gallery and quote) helps you telling a story to your readers. The post types dramatically change the look and feel of the posts and makes it possible to give important content optimal focus.
The design of the theme is kept to a minimum using gray and white color but you have the option to choose between 4 color schemes that mainly affect the menu. This helps highlighting the content. It is also translation ready, SEO friendly and easy to customize with its admin pages, page templates and shortcode system. Let us take a closer look at this theme. As you can see here the front page is a list of your recent posts. The header image from the top post is used as full width background on the post preview. When scrolling down the page this effects makes the page interesting and varied. It is not just a list of plain text and a few small post images. The image below show the post and the video post types.
On the image below you see the quote and the gallery post types when viewed on the front page.
Let us have a look at a post and how it is designed. The large image post title with the author photo overlay is a special design idea. hovering the author image will open up for social interaction options.
Building custom pages and posts is easy if you are using the large array of shortcodes. They make it quick and simple to add functionality and design elements to posts and pages.
Fable theme has 5 Page templates of which Portfolio has the most layout options. Here is an example of a portfolio page with large images.
The image gallery only displays small image grids on on the page with light box preview if clicked.
The theme’s Contact form is CAPTCHA enabled for spam protection. Aside from that, an About Page is also available within the theme.
