Huge Collection of Photoshop Brushes, Patterns, Shapes and Tuts

I have provided large collections of Icon Sets in earlier posts because with really good Icons at hand Designer can save themselves a great deal of time. The same is true for Free Photoshop Brushes, Shapes, Textures and Patterns that are quite essential when creating Designs in Photoshop. In this article you will find a very large collection of free resources you can download for Photoshop and guidance on how to use them in your designs.

Introduction

Creating brilliant, creative and unique designs isn’t easy at all. Having the right tools (like Photoshop), the right material and the right skills is very essential. In the section below you will find descriptions of previous posts that you may want to look at later to get access to some great tutorials and more free design building blocks and other resources. In this article you will find elements that you can import into Photoshop and this way will increase the options you have available in Photoshop for getting the right results faster. Adding the resources to make them available inside Photoshop is quite simple but if you need assistance there is a mini guide in the end of the article. A few tutorial that specifically teach you have to use the resources you can find here has also been added. The article has been organized into six sections and you can see the available sections in the Index below. Just click the links to jump further into the article.

As with any type of freebie, always be sure to check the license or requirements set by the creator. I will be adding more Brushed, Shapes and Patterns over the next couple of days.

Brushes

Deviantart.com is a great resource for free Brushes. Some samples below.

A set of Photoshop & GIMP brushes composed of various shapes and designs with gradients. It includes all kinds of things, from swirls and waves to sunburst effects, bubbles, tribal-like flames, and much more!

Grunge -n- Swirls Photoshop Brushes

Here’s a set of Photoshop & GIMP brushes composed of various grungy shapes intermingling with some pretty swirls. You’ll find shapes like a skull, butterfly, several “strips” of grunge, some circles, rectangles, corners, as well as some top and bottom frames or borders. They are all extremely high resolution, with an average size of about 2300 pixels.

Some of these are vectors, while others have some softer, grungy edges. This is a fairly large download. Enjoy!

If any of you remember my “Dangling Glows” set, many of the swirls are made up of similar types of glows, while others are comprised of glitter and sparkles. They are all extremely high resolution, with an average size of about 2100 pixels.

Floral Photoshop Patterns

A set of Photoshop & GIMP patterns composed of various floral patterns. Some are just flowers, some have some swirls, others have some leaves and stems (foliage), etc. All are, of course, entirely seamless and are high resolution.

Stonework Photoshop Patterns

A set of Photoshop & GIMP patterns composed of various stonework textures. The reference photos were taken from walls, but would certainly work equally well for stonework floors. These are all entirely seamless and extremely high resolution, with most of the images averaging around 3000 pixels in width.

These are mostly made up of the gray toned stones. I’ll be coming out with a second Stonework Patterns set soon that features the more tan colored stonework.

Shapes

Place the *.csh files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Custom Shapes where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

To load a file, go to the Styles palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and choose one of the layer style collections from the menu.

Patterns

Place the *.pat files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Patterns where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

To load a pattern set, go to the Patterns palette (in the fill tool, Pattern overlay style, etc.), then click the small arrow in the top right corner and choose one of the pattern collections from the menu, or choose “Load Patterns” if the set is not listed in the menu. You can also load patterns via the Preset Manager in Photoshop 6 and up.

Brushes

Place the *.abr files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Brushes where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

Brushes created in Photoshop 7 or later will not work in earlier versions of Photoshop. Any Photoshop brushes should work in Photoshop 7 and later.

From the Brushes Palette in Photoshop, click the small arrow in the upper right corner of the palette, and choose load brushes. The brushes will be added to the current brushes.

Actions

Place the *.atn files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Photoshop Actions where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

To load an action set, go to the Actions palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and navigate to the location where you saved the action. Select the file you’d like to load and it will be added to the actions palette.

Color Swatches

Place the *.aco files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Color Swatches where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

To load a file, go to the Swatches palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and choose one of the swatch collections from the menu.

Gradients

Place the *.grd files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Gradients where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.

To load a file, go to the Gradients palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and choose one of the gradient sets collections from the menu.

Layer Styles

Place the *.asl files into:

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Styles where X is the version number for your version of Photoshop.
