Word cloud generators are popular online tools.
They can map data, such as, words and tags in a visual and engaging way. They come with different features and fonts and with a variety of shape, layout and editing capabilities.
These online tools have pros and cons and some work faster than others. You will even be able to find an awesome, free word cloud generator. Therefore, good research is recommended before you choose the best one for your needs.
A word cloud is a modern way to visualize the keywords or tags from any piece of writing e.g. blog posts or an educational text. A word cloud generator usually works like this: the more frequently a word appears in the text, the larger and bolder it appears in the word cloud. Above you see an example of a word cloud created using Tagxedo.
You can use word Clouds in presentations, in eye-catching images on your website or maybe as your cover photo on a social media site. Word clouds are also frequently used for educational purposes and some companies have word clouds printed and displayed in large format. It is also common to see word clouds used on promotional items such as shirts, bags, mugs, etc.

Hi Guy, that’s great to hear and thanks for leaving a comment.
Hello, Is there a word cloud generator that can incorporate photos or other images into a word cloud (not word clouds in the shape of images)? There was an early cloud generator about 10 years ago, TypoGenerator (no longer operating), developed by Katharina Nussbaumer, which embedded relevant images from the web into the word cloud–this cloud generator was ahead of its time. Do you know of a cloud generator than can embed an image or photo from one’s own personal collection of images (so as not to violate copyright)? Thank you for your time!
Some really interesting clouds to look at and maybe I’ll find one with a silver lining!
Could you add our new tool as well: http://www.wordclouds.com. A html5 word cloud generator. Fun, free, easy to use on all devices.
Nice overview which I appreciate very much!
Would you be aware of a word cloud generator for larger audiences. The idea is that people type in a word or quote and then the Word Cloud is generated automatically and can be beamed.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Marcel.
Great review of the current generators out there. One addition to the list should be Tricklar’s news cloud generator. It differs to others in your list by using a news database to produce relevant and time dependant word clouds. Great for educational purposes to show how a story has evolved over time either from a country perspective or word association. http://tricklar.com/usa/cloudgenerator
